Bali Restaurants
Eating out in Bali can be one of the highlights of your visit to Bali. There are so many restaurants to choose from, with a variety of cuisine's and with each restaurants trying to offer you something different. Most restaurants are in close proximity to each other and of course centered around the main tourist spots. Most restaurants do not require reservations, but you may want to check our database to make sure, especially for popular restaurants and hotel restaurants.
Restaurant Hints:
You will find that although a restaurant may specialize in one type of cuisine, there will be a section of local Balinese food for you to try. Please be aware of the following:
- Do not expect the same taste and style as you would in your own country when visiting restaurants specializing in specific cuisines. Like many Asian countries has been adapted to the palate of the local and also dependent on the ingredients available.
- Of course you will want to try the local Indonesian dishes and depending on the restaurant, the taste and price varies. As you well may know, most Indonesian food contains a variety of hot spices and peppers. Many reputable restaurants adjust the cooking of Indonesian food to make it mild enough for the non-local guest to enjoy. However if you are very game and would like to experience what most Balinese eat, try one of the many food stores "Warung" lining the streets of the downtown areas.
- The main part of the Indonesian meal is steamed rice " nasi". Accompanying the rice is usually dishes which may include one of a variety of meats and seafood, either boiled, steamed or fried.
- The price range differs dramatically depending on the restaurant and area you dine at. The price can range from US$1 up to and beyond US$100. Check out our 'restaurants by price' list, to find a restaurant that best suits you.
For your information:
- Most hotel restaurants are in the expensive bracket
- Most restaurants besides hotel restaurants average 10,000 to 100,000 Rp. per person
- Beer prices are reasonable (5,000-30,000 Rp) but imported wine and champagne can cost you more than your meal (120,000 - 600,000 Rp.)
- Usually a 10-20% service charge is included in your bill. If not, a tip between 5-10% is appreciated, but not expected.
- Most restaurants in Bali are open until 11 pm. but you will find some restaurants are open till 1 pm or even 24 hours.

With Bali being a popular international vacation destination there is a wide selection of flavors and cuisines on offer as well as local foods in Bali. Bali restaurants suit all tastes and budgets.
The majority of restaurants in Bali are street stalls with plastic seating and simple décor. Traditional cuisines in Bali typically consist of seafood dishes using local herbs and spices to create fresh and tasty creations. The street stalls usually serve a toned down version of traditional cuisine to suit Western visitors' tastes.
For modern contemporary cuisine and fine dining, Bali has a plethora of restaurants available. The countless five-star resorts all have world-class restaurants serving fantastic food. There are also some great stand-alone restaurants, particularly in the Nusa Dua area of the island.

Kuta Beach is a popular tourist spot located in the southern part of Bali. Restaurants, cafes and local eateries can be found here, offering inexpensive food from morning to late at night. There are numerous Western options including pizzas, hamburgers and steak as well as seafood buffets that will leave diners stuffed.
If you are after fine dining in Bali, then head to Nusa Dua. Most of the major five-star hotels and resorts in Nusa Dua have fantastic restaurants available which offer world-class cuisine prepared by acclaimed chefs.
The busy tourist area of Ubud, Bali has a wide choice of flavors and cuisine from around the world as well as local Balinese restaurants. There are also a host of fast food outlets serving american hamburgers, hot dogs and pizza. For visitors wanting a fine dining experience there are several choices along the beach, which offer great food and fantastic views.
